Michael Brandt
Founder / Creative Director, mediumbold

Michael Brandt is the co-founder and Creative Director of mediumbold, a Boston based design studio focused on helping organizations extend and improve their brand by creating corporate identity systems, usable web sites, and online applications.

Michael's approach to interactive design has developed out of his years of experience and training. Having spent many years as a traditional graphic designer, he knows that the classic skills of brand translation, visual systems design, typography, color, and composition are just as relevant online as they are in print. Conversely, he understands that designing for interactive media requires a new way of presenting information and a different set of constraints and tools. Core to his approach is the belief that a designer must understand the technology that will deliver the designs in order to exploit it.

Prior to founding mediumbold, Michael was the design director for Razorfish, Boston, where he built the office's design capabilities from the ground up. During his time there, he grew the design group from eight to thirty designers, instituting design processes and methodologies. Under his direction, Razorfish completed projects for many high-profile clients including Dupont, Estée Lauder, Chanel, Highmark Bluecross/Blueshield, Fidelity Investments, and Gartner.

Michael began his design career at Jack Lenor Larsen, a textile company in New York City where he spent eight years as the sole in-house designer. He began to experiment with the newly emerging field of interactive design in 1995, and in 1997 became the design director for TSDesign, a Boston-based Internet strategy and design firm. While there he developed 3M's global online visual systems standards and completed work for clients such as Gómez Advisors, Cendant Mortgage, and PlanetAll. Michael received his BFA in Graphic Design from Rhode Island School of Design.

Michael has received numerous awards for design excellence and his work has been featured in several design publications.
